Illuminated walk FAQs

  • What is the Heritage Wood illuminated walk?

You will follow the walk as it meanders through woodland around Heritage Wood. Music, stunning lighting elements and light play will guide you along the way. The walk is approximately 1.6km long (about 1 mile) and will take you around 40 minutes depending on your walking speed.

The entire walk is set outside in a woodland during the dark and in winter so is often cold and wet! Please wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear!

There will be no traditional Christmas festive lighting displays or decorations, nor a Santa as he is far too busy at this time of the year checking his lists (twice)!

  • Where do I park?

You will be guided at the entrance to the parking area. Parking for the event is free, please ensure you add a parking ticket to your booking or multiple as required for a group booking.

  • Is there parking for Disabled badge holders?

Yes, if you are a badge holder and require a space, please let the parking staff know when you enter the event and they will direct you to a designated space.

  • What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your start time to allow you time to park and arrive at the start of the walk.

  • Can I visit my tree without a ticket during the event?

Sorry, no.

  • Who is the walk suitable for?

The walk is suitable for all ages. A unique oppertunity to visit Heritage Wood at night. It offers a delightful family experience to be enjoyed by both young and old alike. It is an excellent alternative for date night for the romantics among us, or a unique and enchanting evening out with friends. Additionally, it provides a great alternative to the traditional works Christmas night out.

  • How do I know where to go?

The walk will be clearly marked to aid you through the event and helpful staff will be on hand throughout.

  • Are dogs allowed on the walk?

Yes, well behaved dogs are permitted, please ensure they are kept on a lead at all times, and you pick up after them.

  • What should I wear?

The illuminated walk takes place outdoors in a wood, during the winter after dark.

The walk will proceed regardless of the weather, except in very exceptional circumstances where we consider it unsafe to open. It will be cold, dark, and on rainy days, wet!

Please wrap up warmly and wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for winter weather.

  • Is there food and drink?

Yes, there will be stall holders each night with different food and drink offerings that can be purchased. There will be a hot drink stop during the walk.

  • What other attractions apart from the walk?

There will be a number of different stall holders offering their wares and also a firepit to sit around.

  • I have booked the wrong time/night/weekend

Please get in touch with the office and we will see if the time/night/weekend that you wish is available. Changes are available subject to availability. We regret that we are unable to make changes to any bookings within 48 hours or less of the date you are due to attend.

  • The weather forecast shows to be bad on my night, I no longer wish to come, can I transfer my ticket to another night?

No, we cannot issue any refunds or transfers for visitors who are disinclined to come due to inclement weather, or for any other reason.

  • Can I book tickets at the event?

No, tickets can only be purchased online prior to attending. Tickets can be purchased here

  • Mobility scooters

You are welcome to bring your own mobility scooter. We have 2 available for hire . Please contact our office in working hours prior to making your booking to see if we have a scooter available for your preferred timeslot. Mobility scooters must be booked in advance.

  • Pushchairs and accessibility

We have tried to make the route as wheelchair and pushchair friendly as possible, please be aware, by the very nature of the woodland some parts of the ground will be uneven and some parts stoney, these parts may need some effort to propel wheels or to push a pushchair.

  • Toilets

There will be toilets in the car park, at least one toilet during the walk and three toilets including one wheelchair access toilet next to the marquee.

  • Lost property

If you have lost something during your walk, please email the office with details/description and the time you attended, and we will do our best to help.

  • Are there any Health and Safety Rules I should know about?

To ensure your own safety and enjoyment, as well as that of our other visitors and staff, all visitors must always remain on the clearly marked walk. All children and vulnerable adults must be closely supervised at all times. The Illuminated walk takes place in the winter, after dark. Areas outside the clearly defined walk may have potential trip hazards and health and safety risks, which may be difficult to see during the event. Therefore, please always stay on the path and follow any instructions or advice given by our stewarding staff.

Conditions on the walk will be continually monitored by our onsite team, but we remind all visitors that the event takes place in an outdoor, country setting over winter, after dark. Please exercise caution when attending and supervise children and vulnerable adults at all times.

For your own safety and enjoyment, please do not touch any lights or electrical installations. Ensure that children and vulnerable adults do not touch them either, and supervise them closely at all times.
